“People, even more than things,
have to be restored, renewed, revived,
reclaimed, and redeemed;
never throw out anyone.”
I was juggling assorted tasks and checking emails when one email caught my eye. A long-time Literacy Council volunteer had written to share her “at long-last” goal attainment. It was a significant accomplishment that had taken a dedicated journey to reach. The volunteer had checked in from time to time regarding her bumpy progress. As I read through her note I was not prepared for her expressions of gratitude that accompanied her descriptions of final achievement. The volunteer was writing to thank me for the encouragement I had given to her over the years.
A renewed vigor washed over me as her words danced before my eyes. I shook my head in disbelief and wiped away tears. I had been privy to peek into her lovely world. I was the one who had benefited and grown. That volunteer walked across my heart, touching me exactly when I needed inspiration and a reminder about the importance of being grateful. I am the one who received so much more.
THANK YOU to our many generous donors, supporters, volunteers, tutors and adult learners who believe in the strength of our Literacy Council!
