22nd Annual Spelling Bee – 2014

The 2014 Literacy Council Spelling Bee held on June 6, 2014 at Miami Township Civic Center was a big success! Thank you to all the Spelling Bee teams, volunteers, donors, sponsors and Miami Township Civic Center Trustees for your generosity in providing time, gifts, space and for spelling those TOUGH words. The silent auction tables had fantastic items, raffle tickets were sold for split-the-pot and a gift card poster. The Literacy Council event raised $8,000 which will be used for tutoring and helping adult learners improve their literacy skills.

21st Annual Spelling Bee – 2013

The 21st Annual Spelling Bee was held on Friday, June 14, 2013 at the Miami Township Civic Center. There were nine teams with exceptional spelling skills that kept the Spelling Bee running longer than expected! The silent auction, cake auction, split-the-pot, gift card poster raffle, and pin sale activities raised funds for the Literacy Council.

Thank you to all the teams, volunteers, sponsors and donors who participated in the event, made it a huge success and helped us raise $10,000!

20th Annual Spelling Bee – 2012

Upward of 150 were in attendance as the 20th Anniversary Adult Spelling Bee of The Literacy Council of Clermont and Brown Counties got under way at the Miami Township Civic Center at noon on Friday, June 15, 2012 with an enthusiastic recitation of The Pledge of Allegiance. Fifteen teams of three spellers each, representing organizations in the area, competed for the top three honors. Tom Amrine, an attorney, Rob Hampton, a second grade teacher, and Robin Webster, a retired E. W. Scripps professional, comprised the team from St. Timothy’s Episcopal Church in Anderson Township that took first place by correctly spelling deglutition, which means the act or process of swallowing.

Brenda Ely, Kristy Maruca and John Turpening represented Child Focus, the second-place winner. Diane McCarty, Melissa Wagers and Ed Stanten of Workforce One of Clermont County placed third.

First-place winners received gold medals, complimentary dinner certificates from Texas Roadhouse and tickets from Raves Motion Pictures. The second-place team was awarded silver medals and dinner certificates from Mama Vita’s. Bronze medals and Great Scott Eateries dinner certificates went to the third-place team.
